An International double album of latterday exotica. The DJ activates the emotional SuperDrive within the freshly rendered Lounge Cubism. You arrange to meet for the common, eroticizing file sharing. Through the finely cut cocktail glasses the ladies' romantic looks ignite rainbows which burn-in into PDA monitors. As a result men's hearts melt like amorous ice cubes on hot sheets. Tropical mist, exotic condiment, pacific secrets and extended processor capacity maneuver the banter - a rendezvous...

Another New Year's Eve is upon us, a time to reflect on all that has happened in the previous year and to wonder about events yet to come in 2006. New Year's Eve is celebrated in so many ways around the world, it is truly a global time of reflection and anticipation. Here at Comfortstand, we decided to celebrate the changing of the year by asking artists from all over the world to take the song most associated in people's minds with New Years Eve (the old Scottish song 'Auld Lang Syne'), and to...

Welcome to Music That's Better Than It Sounds. Honestly. This is new art from old art. 100% Samples. And futhermore; I have a PC microphone propped up to one of the speakers of my stereo, into which I have a Raidoshack Optimus SSM-1750 mixer hooked, and into the mixer I have two Technics turntables and a Panasonic REAL 3DO video game system (which functions as a CD player) hooked, and speaking of hooked I'm just that to making this music. Home Recordings. Children singing, screaming and storytelling. All recordings are sourced from cassette tapes found in thrift stores and junk shops, tapes dubbed for us (from two of the kids featured here) and one tape was even found in a gutter! The only exception being the last track on this recording, by Grandpa Norm, singing to his grandson and we thought it fit quite nice on this compilation of home cassette recordings. Remember when you were a kid? Did you have a recorder? Even if you...

When it comes to sampling new music, you can't beat the beauty of a single. It's a little 2-song taste-test: side A to awaken the senses, and a B side that just might make you hungry for more. Periodically throughout April and September 2004, the Swingin' Singles series served up musical morsels from a variety of talented artists. This compilation presents the series in its entirety: fourteen artists, thirty-two tracks, two little jewel cases of assorted treats to nibble at your leisure. You're...

In an abandoned seaside town the women of the bordello wander out. Their punch-stained lips whistle whiskeyed melodies. Their limp boas leave a trail of old perfume. A cowboy, hidden in the shadow of his ten-gallon, sips sassafras soda, for which he has traveled a great mile. You make your way from the old hotel set back on the dunes, stopping first for a continental breakfast in the chandeliered ballroom. Hop on a sepia carousel. Bathe in the icy shore. Or just stroll along the crumbling...

Ned Martin Stringham was my grandfather. He was a grandfather in the cliché way. The kind of man you'd want for your grandpa. As a child he'd spoil me with presents and dollar bills when my family would visit him in Utah. He loved country music and would take my grandmother dancing. Ned Stringham was the father of six girls. He worked many jobs, but his favorite was the Recreational Coordinator at the State Hospital in Provo, Utah. Formed in 2000, Lady Bombon is a boy and a girl from Mexico City who use samplers, rhythm boxes, keyboards and guitars to make a brilliant and strange new rhythm fusion. Chuchelas (the boy) and Hongo (the girl) blend punk, pop, roc, and electro, inspired by the 80s and 90s sounds they both grew up listening to. Originally, the two made music just for fun, as something that relaxed them, but after they recorded their first demo and gave it to friends, they realized it could be something more...

I was reading a while back about this guy called Mingering Mike who, back in the 70s, created a whole fictional recording career for himself and his friends. He hand-painted album covers and disc labels and recorded a cappella cassettes of his original compositions. It got me thinking back to my own imaginary music career, as Yugoslavian heavy metal singer/guitarist Jim Rock, leader of the band Iron Metal. The germ of the idea was formed during repeated viewings of a videotaped nightclub...

A "mic in track" is a recording made on a PC using MusicMatch Jukebox, a music utility packaged with many new PC's that allows the user to record from the microphone input of the PC's sound card and save the recording in mp3 format. The default filename is "mic in track" followed by a number. Beef Humper was supposed to be a punk band, not an electronic project. In 1998, Daryl Westfall and Wes White (ex-drummer for Nashville's Teen Idols) envisioned the world's first "meat-core" band - essentially a parody of the straight-edge punk movement. Pro-pollution, pro-vivisection, anti-vegan lyrics would be spat out from the stage by musicians brandishing "O"s instead of "X"s on their hands. The 'joke' seemed - to them at least - even funnier due to the fact...

Somehow, the title stuck and over the past six years Change! has enjoyed live collaborations with nearly 30 artists while making it's home in Brooklyn, Austin and now Oakland! Another piece of the Ongoing Construct, this episode from the file of Eddie the Rat finds Pete Martin and friends in a most convivial mood. Because, in actuality, this stuff is surprisingly adrift. That's not a bad thing; I kinda like meandering now and again. And I really like where these pieces wander. Whenever I think an idea has been exhausted, I'm always pleasantly surprised by new insight. This is the sort of abstract experimental album that might well appeal to a more mainstream crowd....

Release notes on American Propagandhi (nonviolence propaganda): If you want to educate your ears Perceive vibrations Stay alive And eat It boils down to words You can pay off the government Which in some ways it's good And some ways it's bad Growing up with plants in your garden So Whatever the issue may be I like to develop that craving A lot of their formulas are complex But what about us What about us If you are not a singer Standing near an electronic machine With the willingness of asking...

I love to make this music, which is why I made this music. Old records (for the most part children's) found in thrift stores, yard sales and flea markets were the main source of the material along with public domain drum loops, Internet WAV sites, TV shows and movies and much more. No drum machines, fancy samplers or sequencers were used on this project. Not one shred of original instrumentation, just 100% samples recorded with a basic PC microphone strategically placed up against my stereo...

These songs were brought to us all by a rare creature. You can be taught how to live proper and well by listening to these tracks daily. Take deep breaths and let the instrument of your soul be the only trumpet that guides you to a distant tomorrow, with long forgotten devil ears and burning towels of distrust that you personally will forever miss in your heart my friends. All the music used for this project was taken from the entire Comfort Stand catalog [csr001 to csr044], except for track 05 'Where the Wild Things Are' which is based on an old track of the same name that i had made in 2001. Vocals on tracks 01, 02, 03, 04 and 06 were taken from my own Comfort Stand release, the Lotus opus [ csr023 ]. This set was originaly created in two evenings (september 22 & 23, 2004), two long mixes from which all the songs above are taken from. Enjoy ! - Chenard...

OK! Enough with the noise already. Full Load of King has plugged in, tuned up, and FLOPed out. Bubbly synthesizers have been pushed aside by pesky guitars; drum machines have (mostly) been replaced by heavy breathing and sweat. 'Normal' is the product (again) of one pair of hands. Pop FLOK! Dedicated to friends and fans who supported her over the many years she played on the streets of Boston, Cambridge, San Francisco and Berkeley. "The Space Lady is San Francisco's most enchanting street musician. Whether on keyboard or accordion, her music stops sidewalk traffic even in this multi-task town. The Space Lady usually performs wearing a whimsical steel helmet with angel wings, which makes her easy to recognize but belies the credibility of her haunting vocal interpretations of...

Flavia & the Motonets have worked it all out. Armchairs are soft, yes. But we won't stay anywhere. We'll travel. Today we don't want to have control of anything. We get carried away. Butterflies, bus drivers, small fish, fruit, tomato men, kids & friends will take us to a colourful world, jumping to one cloud to the other, with graceful, harmonic and floating movements. A simple world with happy endings but not a stupid world. And there we are, travelling, awakening the sleepy memories'...

Struggling in the dark, hands felt along the battery searching for terminals. It wasnt much of a leap from concept to voltage; eventually each index finger reached an opposing pole. The current kicked in and lit up the temporal lobe from the inside out. Sounds melting inside a rambling shack of hallucination FLOP is the second installment of The Noise Trilogy. When burning a CD of the entire release, make sure that there are no pauses between tracks. Check out more information about this album...

Currently residing outside of Boston, the creator of the Sound Field Furrows conducts experiments in sound perception. The works on this disc were all created by organizing sounds recorded in the streets, at the ocean, in churches and across the globe. In these pieces, repitition and silence are the keys to focusing attention. Check out more information about this recording on it's Comfort Stand release page .

Datenbergbau by Bleep Latest release by Toronto's electronic-pop trio, Bleep, is a collection of five pessimistic pop songs spiced up with leftist political ideas and a healthy dose of artsy pretensions. More than in their previous release, Bleep explore dynamic and lyrical contrasts in their music... from digital noise and analogue distortion to soft hums and ethereal melodies... from bass-heavy dancehall beats to ambient soundscapes... from profound to naive, from globally political to...

Elevator was originally released on cassette in 1996, and was lovingly re-mastered in 2005 to bring forth all of its glory. Each original cassette side was performed as a live mix with the basic noise pieces and segues being mixed on the spot with tape loops and other live instruments directly to DAT. Elevator to the Gallows was the first installment in Full Load of Kings Noise Trilogy to be recorded, but is the last to be released on Comfort Stand. (The Noise Trilogy titles have been released...

You have just discovered a rare comedy album. In this collection, almost each segment has a few constants: The characters are all chickens; an instructor, Mrs. Grossman (voiced by a man) is teaching a subject to a class; a cat (the chickens' mortal enemy) will be killed as part of the lesson; Monty, a student, will point out that Mrs. Grossman is doing something dangerous; the bit will end with an enormous explosion... Murder That Was Heard A Murder Mystery Created and Performed by The Potrzebowski & McMillan & Company July of 1987 This is what happens when a group of cousins have access to a tape recorder when their parents are away for the evening. The ages of the children involved in this recording range from nine to fourteen (with a brief spoken word from a three year old at the end). The kids improvised their dialog and made up the story as they went along, only pausing the tape recorder to...

I remember the smell of her fingertips as she said good-bye for what would be the last time. I had kissed her hands all over in a desperate bid for sympathy, for mercy, or just to stall her leaving by a few scant minutes. I thought that I would never be able to breathe again, my chest had collapsed like a ruined house and had buried my heart. She moved out of town and started up the Crank habit that has defined her through these years. I breathed just fine after that, I also gained forty pounds...
